Library Quotes

The American Library Association's advocacy site, "I Love Libraries" includes access to a database of library quotes and tips on how to effectively use the quotes. One of the suggestions is to use them for making bookmarks.  Recommendation:  add a link to bookmark templates for WORD and for Adobe Illustrator.


The site also links to its partners, including its "Authors as Advocates" program.  Thanks go to 2010-2011 ALA President Roberta Stevens!  This is a great legacy. The author videos in support of public libraries are well done, with an emphasis on employment resources for the public.  Wish a few videos specifically addressed the plight of school libraries at every level: elementary, middle, high, and higher education.  Hope each new ALA president will keep growing and enhancing the "Authors as Advocates" program.

Library history buff Larry T. Nix blogged about a book of Librarian Lyrics and featured a fun one called "A Librarian's Life" (see below). His blog post is "Little Lyrics for Librarians", the title of a book by William Fitch Smyth (1857-1940).

Barack Obama -- What Libraries Are About

In light of the outcome of the November 2008 Presidental elections, American Libraries Direct issue for 11/5/2008 carried an item by American Libraries Editor Leonard Kniffel.

In his 2005 American Library Association conference speech and in the August 2005 American Libraries article, Barack Obama said, “More than a building that houses books and data, the library represents a window to a larger world, the place where we’ve always come to discover big ideas and profound concepts that help move the American story forward and the human story forward.”

“That’s what libraries are about. At the moment that we persuade a child, any child to cross that threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better,” Obama said. “It’s an enormous force for good.”
