News item from AL Direct: "Calling all filmmakers! As part of its celebration of Banned Books Week in Second Life, the Office for Intellectual Freedom is inviting everyone to take part in a Banned Books Week Machinima Contest. Machinima is filmmaking within a real-time, 3-D virtual environment like Second Life. The inspiration for your machinima entry should be “Think For Yourself and Let Others Do the Same,” this year’s BBW theme. Submissions will be accepted through September 25. My friend gave me a new book:"This Book is Overdue! How Librarians and Cybrarians Can SAVE US ALL" by Marilyn Johnson, published by Harper Collins. Check it out! It is a collection of stories about librarians (mostly public librarians) doing all sorts of wild and crazy ... and important things. Image on cover is of an old-time style Wonder Woman leaping into action to save the day... holding a digital device (size of an Apple iPad).
Wonder how many other librarians were given this book? Or how many will re-gift to members of their library boards and commissions? February is "Library Lovers Month", a good reason to give this book to your favorite librarian or library advocate!

This past weekend was the mid-winter planning meeting for the American Library Association. For those unable to attend in real life (RL), they were invited to attend some functions in Second Life (SL). Here is my avatar. I was only able to visit on two of the four days.
