It covers:

  • Some of the treasures among its books, maps, photos, and presidential papers
  • The History of the Library of Congress and its Jefferson Building
  • The Jefferson Library and other treasures of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division
  • The painstaking care of the Library’s collections
  • The use of technology to reveal new information about historical documents

Wireless Library Laptop Symbol

Check out the Library Laptop Symbol, which indicates that a library has wireless network for its community. Love it! The National Library Symbol is the "L" with a circle on top and book shape in hand, an image that looks like a person sitting and reading a book. These images are used with public libraries, but why not school and academic libraries too? Many school libraries use wireless to expand access to their online catalogs and web-based resources.

The artwork is available in three sizes and 2 colors (Blue & White or Black & White)

Will we see yet another take-off of the original version, but with a kindle or iPad in hand? Will the ALA Fact Sheet#30 get updated again soon?

A Librarian's Life - Little Lyrics for Librarians

Library history buff Larry T. Nix blogged about a book of Librarian Lyrics and featured a fun one called "A Librarian's Life" (see below). His blog post is "Little Lyrics for Librarians", the title of a book by William Fitch Smyth (1857-1940).

A Librarian's Life

A Librarian's life is the life for me
For there's nothing at all to do, you see,
But to sit at a desk and read new books,
And admire yourself, and think of your looks.
To questioning souls one can tartly say:
"I can't be bothered with you to-day,
For I haven't finished this novel. See?"
A librarian's life is the life for me.

Libraries on U.S. Postage Stamps

Larry Nix's Library History Bluff Blog covers a lot of topics, including bookwagons, Carnegie Libraries, library bookmarks, YMCA libraries, and stamps.

This week, he posted about U. S. Postal stamps that feature libraries. I was familiar with several of the more recent images such as the America's Libraries ABC and the Library of Congress, but was surprised at how many stamps there were overall.
